As current events heat up, it is important to keep some very simple facts in perspective. It is easy to get caught up in the minutae.
More below the fold:
The current events in Lebanon are part of a laid out plan to ensure unrest in the Middle East. Unrest in the ME will allow the US to extend its military power in the name of "peace".
The Bush White House is controlled by neocons who believe that the USA is the lone superpower and should expand its influence, under the guise of democracy, via its military might. Any country that is not a democracy will be converted to a US "protectorate" at the point of a gun.
The single most important area for the US to control is the Middle East, with its dwindling oil deposits. If the USA does not control the oil, they can not control the fuel supply and that puts the fuel dependent military at a greater risk. If the military fuel supply is at risk, the military is at risk, thus the USA (and its plans for the expansion of US protectorates) is at risk.
The Bush White House and the US Congress are controlled by people beholden to the military industrial complex and the oil companies. Any solution that does not feed into the financial profits of these undustries is disregarded straight away. Thus, armament treaties, diplomacy and alternative feul sources are not seriously pursued in any meaningful manner. Any threat to the neocon agenda is met with an onslaught of well funded propaganda and public relations. And, it works.
Dick Cheney and a handful of policy consultants make and enforce US foreign policy as described above. Anyone who attempts to or appears to pursue an agenda contrary to their agenda is immediately attacked. That includes Condolezza Rice.
The practice of "eliminationsim" applies to everyone who opposses, either directly or indirectly, the neocon agenda. This tactic is nurtured and supported by the right-wing Wurlitzer, the propaganda noise machine consisting of radio, TV and print - Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, et al.
Liberals have to understand that the primary function of the Wurlitzer isn't to engage the issues, it is to obsure the issues and to divert attention from the issues using hatred, fear and bigotry. Ann Coulter is the best example of this in action. She attacks Liberals outright and we respond to those attacks. Tet, the irony is that her attacks on the surface are tacitly absurd. She wants an emotional response (and distraction) and she gets one. Whether she is right or wrong when stating her points is not the point. (When confronted on this, stammers refuses to answer and changes the subject.) The distration is the point. As long as Liberals are kept rocking on their feet by a constant barrage of attacks and disinformation, their role in both the process and the battle for public opinion (the war of ideas) is marginalized. This is but one part of the "eliminationism" plan.
Liberals have to accept the fact that they must beat the right-wing at its own game. And, that means confronting the Bush White House and the GOP controlled Congress on their incestuous connections to big business on all levels. The system they enjoy is corrupt to the rafters, and shining a light upon it will make the rats scurry in fear.
The neocon right-wing agenda, as it is unfolding and in affect this very day, is a house of cards. A fact not lost on the brass at the Pentagon.
And, it is being revealed as such. Even to the most stalwart of conservative minds.
