WOWT.com:
Douglas County Treasurer Julie Haney has placed Trish Lanphier on paid administrative leave but said it has nothing to do with Lanphier's signing or circulating a greeting card for Fred Cappellano.
Cappellano was sentenced to prison last month for embezzling thousands of dollars from the office while serving as deputy treasurer.
Lanphier is taking her attorney's advice and not commenting on Haney putting her on administrative leave. But a source within the department told Channel 6 that the discipline is in fact a result of the card, which showed support for Cappellano.
Haney's chief deputy, Tom Zoucha, met with Lanphier and her attorney in a closed-door meeting for an hour Tuesday, bet left saying no resolution was reached.
Treasurer Haney is a Republican running for re-election. Lanphier is a Democrat who had filed as a candidate for Clerk of the District Court.
According to sources, the greeting card was not initiated by Lanphier and was simply meant as a gesture of kindness towards a fallen former collegue who was headed to jail.
When did a gesture of kindness become an excuse to fire someone from their job?
